Minnis Scores Twice, Riverhawks Forfeit Second Half

April 26, 2008 Lacey, WA

Columbia Basin came to Lacey looking to keep things close with the Shockers, but after a 60-yard INT return by Dan Chu started the scoring and rushing TD's by Jacob Hicks, David Minnis and Theo Holman, it was looking to be a long day for the Riverhawks. But, as the game wound down in the first half, a bomb down the sidelines took the Riverhawks inside the Shocker 20 yard line where time appeared to expire. The officials decided to put 4/10ths of a second back on the clock and on the ensuing play, defensive tackle Dan Alefosio sacked the 'Hawk QB who injured his ankle on the play. Already down their starting WR and backup QB following a devastating hit by Randy Alderman, Columbia Basin was forced to forfeit the second half. This is the first time in EFL history a team could not continue a game.

David Minnis erupted for two long scoring runs while Theo Holman and Jacob Hicks bulled their way in for TD's. Chu and strong safety Eric Goodman picked off passes and returned them for touchdowns. This is the fourth straight season Goodman has intercepted a pass and returned it for a Shocker score. The Shockers travel to Burbank, WA next week for a rematch with the Blue Mountain Stars. The Stars took a 31-10 victory over the Shockers in the GNFA Championship last season.
