POELTL
RETURNS SEVENTH KICK FOR TD; SMITH ROLLS FOR 3
June 2, 2007
Lacey, WA
Terrell Smith
gashed the Avalanche defense for 3 touchdowns as South Sound
finished a second consecutive regular season undefeated and
head to playoffs 11-0.
The Shockers
defense took some hits but never broke holding the Avalanche
at bay after a penalty gave Northwest a first and goal. This
was the Shockers second consecutive shutout and fourth on
the season.
Smith, Laday,
and Theo Holman ripped up the Avalanche, while Marquis
Johnson, sitting the first half for a team rule violation,
came in after the half to ignite huge runs averaging 10
yards per carry. Holman had a dazzling 67 yard run for an
apparent score negated by a penalty, so the offense did the
next best thing and drove the ball down the field eating
precious clock time.
Quarterback
John Stewart found Bobby Poeltl free over the middle, and
Bobby did the rest sidestepping the remaining defender for a
waltz into the endzone. Poeltl, having an All-American type
year, had earlier ignited the crowd with a spectacular break
out of a 79-yard punt return for a TD, his fourth on the
season. Poeltl nearly broke the second half kickoff for
another score which would have brought his season total to 8
special teams TD's.
The Avalanche
and Shockers will face off again in the first round of PNFC
playoffs at South Sound Stadium on Saturday.
