DEFENSE IGNITES
42-0 ROUT
April 7, 2007 Lakewood, WA
Bobby Poeltl returned the opening
kickoff 82-yards for a touchdown and the Shockers defense
ignited a 21-point outburst in the fourth quarter to turn a
rain drenched battle into a rout. All three facets of
the Shockers game scored on the night with the defense
pitching in 6 points and the South Sound special teamers
accounting for two TD's on the evening. Pat Hutnik was
6-6 on PAT's bringing his total to 17-points on the year.
The Shockers offense had difficulty
finding the handle on the ball in the first half, by
fumbling on four possessions and missing on 7 red zone
opportunities. The Shockers defense however, continued
to bring it's "A" game by swiping 6 Wolves passes
returning one for a score by cornerback Micah Tanaka.
Tanaka, free safety Randy Alderman, and middle
linebacker Nate Enciso each recorded two interceptions.
Alderman and Enciso nearly scored on returns before being
dragged down inside the Wolves 10.
Running back Marquis Johnson found
the endzone twice while quarterback John Stewart rushed in
another. Following Johnson's second score from 2 yards
out in the fourth quarter, the Shockers hit the endzone
twice in the next 7 plays thanks to defense and special
teams.
Defensive end Jackie Triplett turned
in a masterful performance recording 2.5 sacks and blocking
2 Lakewood punts while continuously harassing the Lakewood
quarterbacks. One blocked punt bounced into the arms
of teammate Eric Webster who raced 35 yards for a touchdown
to cap the scoring.
